- Description
Photo taken on the north side of the river, looking south. Preparatory to the moving, in 1920, of the Main Street steel bridge, the swinging unit was floated by scows to form a part of the improved Middle Street (50th Avenue) bridge to Washington Island. This was in preparation to the building, in 1921, of the new Main Street, bascule type, bridge with an elevated approach at the south end over railroad tracks to the Simmons Company plant.
