- Description
Seeking to lure immigrants, settlers, and businessmen, many town promoters produced guides extolling the virtues and advantages possible for those who came to a particular area. Northern Wisconsin remained sparsely settled in the mid-nineteenth century, a situation that town officials, businessmen, and land speculators sought to change. This guide to Bayfield discusses the history of the area, its natural resources, and its potential for further growth due to its advantageous location on Lake Superior--a factor of great importance to immigrants looking for new opportunities in the United States
