Five men stand in front of the Keystone Saloon, a single level storefront building. The man on the far left, Charlie Bell, is holding a bicycle, and the bartender, Stanley J. Talaska stands to the right of him in the doorway. Three men stand on the far right, George Oberbrunner, Jack Dunn, and Emanuel Rockonn. The sign in the far left window says “May 25th, 1901, Annual Field Meet, Ashland” and the sign on the doors says “Val. Blatz, Brewing Co., Milwaukee Lager Beer.” "Charlie Bell with the Bike, Stanley J. Talaska, Bartender, George (Dutch) Ober brunner, Jack Dunn, Emanuel Rochonn, (Manny)." -- typed on front side of photograph. " May 28, 1901. Keystone Saloon Donor E. Talaska." -- Handwritten on back of photograph. "S.J. Talaska, 14 HB 41, Sanborn Ave. Rd. Box 13, Ashland, Wisc." -- Stamped on back of photograph.
Joseph Mroteck had a saloon and boarding house located at 1523 West 3rd Street from 1905-1910. In 1908, Stanley Talaska is listed as a boarder and a bartender at this address. Stanislaus Talaska had a saloon at 2093 Cemetery Rd from 1911-1917, as listed in the Ashland City Directories. George F. Oberbrunner died 2/15/1909 in Ashland, WI.
