Speech by Menominee Chief Oshkosh

These handwritten notes were made by Henry S. Baird (1800-1875), perhaps while he was acting as secretary at the council between the Menominee and the U.S. held at Lake Poygan in 1848. In the speech, Chief Oshkosh lists grievances of the tribe against the federal government, which had not fulfilled its obligations to the Menominee nation under the Treaty of 1836. There is no typescript of this three-page document.
