This photographic print, taken by a Portage photographer around the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the residence of then-owner, A.J. Rebholz. The residence was constructed mid-nineteenth century and it features Gothic and Italianate architectural detailing. These elements include the multi-gable roofline with steep pitches, windows with wooden hood moldings, brick facade, molded double doors at the entryway, and front veranda with chamfered posts. The wooden ornamentation, located in the apexes of the front gables, was a popular stylistic element in Portage, during the Victorian era. According to census information (1900) Adam Jacob Rebholz was born in Wisconsin in 1858 and he wed Amanda Rebholz, who was born in 1862. Rebholz was known in Portage as a successful businessman.
