Henry Phillip (H.P.) Thompson's Scrapbook A collection of marriages, deaths, sporting events, wars, fires, and miscellaneous and trivial events and stories which were of interest in Pardeeville, WI. Mr. Thompson was born January 12, 1882 and, as a boy, lived on a small farm at W6349 Highway P. just west of Pardeeville. His father, Frank Barton Thompson, was a farmer in the spring, summer and fall, but when the snow fell he went north to the village of Dorchester to work in the lumber camps as a "barn boss." He supervised the care of the horses used to move the cut timber to the river’s edge. H.P., as he was locally known, was a carpenter's assistant. And so the story goes that on a cold winter’s day in 1903, H.P. was helping build the Catholic Church on South Main Street in Pardeeville when he hit his thumb while putting on shingles. He promptly threw away his hammer, climbed down the ladder and marched down town to find a job out of the cold. Though he knew nothing about printing
